Ink/Media Areas (One Project will be pursued)
Project #1: Generating IR emissivity values for ink-media combinations
1) Run drying tests on the research dryer
2) Determine emissivity values for the ink-media sets for input to drying application
Project #2: Generating drop impact data using development tool
1) Use low volume TIJ print head system (6, 50pL and 200pL) to generate drop spread, absorption and coverage data for drops on media modeling tool validation
Project #3: Generating ink absorption data to be used with a simplified porous media model
1) Run gravimetric tests of ink on media to generate absorption rate data
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Required:
Requirements
Boiling Project
(1) Working towards a degree in Fluid mechanics, heat transfer or chemical engineering.
(2) Experience making experimental measurements using high-precision optics and classifying experimental error.
(3) Have an understanding of low-Reynolds flow involving free surface, multiphase flows (including boiling) and high surface tension.
(4) Have an understanding of common CFD methods and coupled heat-transfer/fluid simulations using a Cartesian grid-based finite volume method.
(5) Have good experience of large CFD/thermal code development using FORTRAN or C.
Ink/Media Project areas
(1) Working towards a degree in Fluid mechanics or chemical engineering.
(2) Experience making experimental measurements and classifying experimental error.
