Type: Labor, For Sale - Private.

Title: Fluid Mechanics Analysis Intern Location: United States-Oregon-Corvallis Job Number: xxxx829 Job description The incumbent will assist the HP engineers in carrying out testing, run simulations and potentially code solutions in the development of either a boiling or ink/media application as applied to Thermal Ink Jet (TIJ) printer products. Tasks may include: Boiling Activity Project 1) Make measurements of boiling (classify stages of boiling: initialization, heat rash, full bubble expansion, bubble dissolution). Identify boiling behavior for different voltage settings. 2) Study new fluids beyond water and ink vehicle (mixtures of water-IPA or other novel inks that may be under development). How does boiling change? 3) Run thermal simulations of boiling events for comparison to experiment. 4) Assist in development with boiling code. Compile literature on boiling. Build on pre-existing boiling code and knowledge. Ink/Media Areas (One Project will be pursued) Project #1: Generating IR emissivity values for ink-media combinations 1) Run drying tests on the research dryer 2) Determine emissivity values for the ink-media sets for input to drying application Project #2: Generating drop impact data using development tool 1) Use low volume TIJ print head system (6, 50pL and 200pL) to generate drop spread, absorption and coverage data for drops on media modeling tool validation Project #3: Generating ink absorption data to be used with a simplified porous media model 1) Run gravimetric tests of ink on media to generate absorption rate data Qualifications: Education and Experience Required: Requirements Boiling Project (1) Working towards a degree in Fluid mechanics, heat transfer or chemical engineering. (2) Experience making experimental measurements using high-precision optics and classifying experimental error. (3) Have an understanding of low-Reynolds flow involving free surface, multiphase flows (including boiling) and high surface tension. (4) Have an understanding of common CFD methods and coupled heat-transfer/fluid simulations using a Cartesian grid-based finite volume method. (5) Have good experience of large CFD/thermal code development using FORTRAN or C. Ink/Media Project areas (1) Working towards a degree in Fluid mechanics or chemical engineering. (2) Experience making experimental measurements and classifying experimental error. Job: Engineering
